President Bola Tinubu has appointed Abba Abubakar Aliyu as the Managing Director of the Rural Electrification Agency (REA).
The announcement was made by his special adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, on Friday.
The appointment, which takes effect from January 23, 2025, will see Aliyu serve an initial four-year term.
Aliyu had been serving as the agency’s acting managing director since March 2024 before his confirmation. With over two decades of experience in the energy and organisational development sectors, he has held key positions in both the public and private sectors.
Before joining REA, Aliyu was Head of the Project Management Unit at the Nigeria Electrification Project and General Manager of Corporate Services, Projects, and Research at the Nigeria Bulk Electricity Trading PLC (NBET).
President Tinubu expressed confidence that Aliyu’s expertise would drive the REA’s mission of expanding electricity access to rural communities, aligning with his administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda on sustainable energy.
