Renaissance, a Nigerian indigenous company and owner of Shell Nigeria, has dismissed an explosion report in its Soku Facility, in Akuku-Toru Local Government Area of Rivers State.
The company’s spokesperson, Bamidele Odugbesan, made this clarification in a statement on Sunday.
This comes amid reports of an explosion that struck the Soku Facility.
Earlier, the Soku Kingdom dismissed reports of an explosion as false.
The community said the incident was a fire outbreak.
Meanwhile, Renaissance said that there was no explosion or fire outbreak at its Soku plant.
Odugbesan emphasised that operations at the Soku Plant were ongoing without disruption.
“We wish to categorically state that there was no gas explosion or fire incident at our Soku facility. Our operations are ongoing without any disruption, and all safety protocols remain in place,” he stated.
The development comes amid the ongoing tension in Rivers, which has led to two explosions and a state of emergency declaration in the past few days.
Recall that explosion rocked the Trans Niger Pipeline in the Bodo, Gokana, and Omwawriwa communities in the Ogba-Egbema-Ndoni Local Government Area of Rivers State a few days back.
Similarly, on 19 March 2025, a fire broke out at the Port Harcourt refinery.
Recall that on 18 March 2025, President Bola Tinubu declared a state of emergency in Rivers and announced the suspension of democratically elected authorities.
