Fear has gripped residents of Akoko area of Ondo State following the incessant killings of commercial motorcycle operators in the area by gunmen.
The latest tragic killing was recorded on Friday afternoon on the Arigidi-Okeagbe road near TB Joshua Land.
The victim, simply identified as Yakubu, was discovered lying in a pool of blood in the middle of the road with his throat severely slit and his motorcycle missing.
It was gathered that the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Okeagbe, a Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps officer, Tajudeen Mutiu, and Amotekun Corps operatives, were seen making arrangements to transport the lifeless body of the victim to the State Specialist Hospital morgue in Ikare Akoko.
The latest killing marks the fourth of such killings in the area in last three weeks, putting fear in the minds of residents and travellers using the road.
Thefrontrank reports that women in the Akoko South-West Local Government area had last week protested half-naked to condemn the resurgence of abductions, killings and other crimes by suspected herders in the area.
Apart from the regular killing of Okada riders, farmers in the area have abandoned their farmlands for the fear of attack by rampaging herders.
