Reduction in national security breaches by 65%, unprecedented feat in 13 Years – TDF
The Democratic Front (TDF) has acknowledged the efforts being made by the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Nigerian Armed Forces, Bola Ahmed Tinubu towards reducing criminality of national security breach by 65% in recent months, describing it as an unprecedented feat worth celebrating.
In a statement signed by its Chairman, Mallam Danjuma Muhammad and Secretary, Chief Wale Adedayo, the group said along with the president, the various security agencies also deserves accolade on this welcoming achievement.
The statement read in part: “We congratulate President Bola Tinubu and the national security apparatus of his administration for the remarkable reduction in insurgency and breach of national security in the country by 65%.
“This achievement is exciting in view of the monumental efforts made by successive administrations to curb insurgency and general insecurity without impressive reduction since 2010.
“We also want to commend the President for obliging the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Christopher Gwabin Musa with the directive to restore the bilateral military ties with Nigerien Army in the aftermath of the strained diplomatic relationship between both countries, as a result of the military coup in the former French colony.
“When we contemplate the devastating cost of the war against Terrorism and other forms of security concerns on Nigeria’s human and material resources from 2010 to date, we feel a sense of dismay and frustration. But we are elated by recent revelation by the Minister of Defence, on the unprecedented mileage attained in combating insecurity. We, also, have become optimistic of the imminent end to insecurity in Nigeria.
“However, it is our belief that this success cannot be achieved without the hard work and steadfastness of the rank and file as well as consistency of the principal officers in charge of the nation’s security like Defence Minister, Muhammad Badaru Abubakar, National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu, and the Chief of Defence Staff.
“We therefore commend the trio for not letting the President and the nation down in our collective aspiration to keep Nigeria safe and secured.
“Only recently, precisely on 12th September 2024, the military recorded a major success in the ongoing war to keep the nation safe, when it eliminated Haliru Sububu, one of the most notorious terrorists who actively coordinated almost all the terror attacks in the Zamfara -Katsina axis of Northern Nigeria in recent years while evading all attempts to bring him to justice.
“We are glad to also note that over 193 members of his terror gang were equally eliminated in that successful operation.
“TDF has no doubt that the successes recorded from various military operations in the North East and North West, have technically decimated the cells of terrorists and bandits in the North and significantly weakened their capacity to carry out their deadly attacks on the populace.
“Happily, President Tinubu recently signed a legislation to establish the National Centre for the Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons in Nigeria, as a complementary measure to the concerted efforts by his government to secure the lives and properties of Nigerians.
“TDF expects that when fully established, the centre will facilitate inter-agency cooperation among relevant security agencies with a view to engaging geo spatial analysis in enhancing border security, surveillance and tracking techniques.
“The additional use of counter smuggling strategies to detect and disrupt small arms smuggling networks through a formidable intelligence-depended approach that can effectively eliminate illicit arms proliferation in Nigeria must be emphasized.”
TDF also called on Nigerians to continue to support President Tinubu in his bid to improve national security, and make Nigeria a safer place.
