Police officer’s son drowns in Ogun River

The police in Ogun State have launched a search operation to recover the body of Francis Danjuma, the 32-year-old son of a police officer, who allegedly drowned in the Ogun River.

Danjuma, a resident of Isheri Olofin community, was said to have left his house around 2:00 p.m on June 12, 2024, to bathe in the river.

According to a police document, the incident was reported by his father, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Danjuma Shaibu, who lives at the Alausa Police Barracks in Lagos State.

Shaibu reported that on June 12, 2024, around 2:00 pm, his son Francis left their home to bathe in the nearby Ogun River, where he reportedly drowned.

PUNCH Metro learnt that despite extensive efforts by family members and local divers to find the victim, Danjuma’s body had yet to be recovered.

The spokesperson for the state command, Omolola Odutola, while speaking on the incident on Thursday, said police operatives at the Ojodu-Abiodun had begun investigation to unravel the circumstances behind the incident and recovered the body.

She said, “Upon receiving the tragic news, detectives from the Ojodu-Abiodun division visited the scene and coordinated with local divers and the Olofin Council to search for the body.

“Efforts to locate the body are ongoing. We are also working to uncover the details leading to this unfortunate incident.”
