Operatives from the police headquarters in Abuja have arrested and detained Gani Muhammed Ajowa, the immediate past Special Adviser on Special Duties to Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State.
Thefrontrank reports that Muhammed was arrested on Monday in Akure over alleged political violence in Akoko North West Local Government area during the January 18 council elections.
The former special adviser was arrested at about 8.30pm by armed policemen, and was immediately whisked to Abuja for interrogation and subsequently detained.
Muhammed was said to have been involved in political violence in his hometown Ajowa-Akoko in Akoko North West Local Government area, on the eve of the elections with the aid of three undocumented policemen mobilised from Akure.
Thefrontrank gathered that during the crisis, the three undocumented policemen were disarmed by a senior police officer, who ordered their arrest, while Muhammed bolted to Akure and went into hiding.
The three police officers and Muhammed are currently being detained at the Force headquarters, Abuja.
However, some indigenes of the local government have accused the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, of using his influence to ensure the arrest of Muhammed following a political disagreement on the choice councillorship candidate in Ward 5 in Akoko North West Local Government.
“The Minister is just using his position to settle personal vendettas and political scores. The sole aim of the Minister is to punish Muhammed for just no reason.
“We want the appropriate authorities to investigate the minister’s roles in the violence and disruptions in Ajowa Ward 5. Evidence of his involvement is available and will be presented to support this call for justice,” an indigene of Ajowa community told Thefrontrank.
