The Ondo State Police Command has arrested two suspected armed robbers terrorising residents of Akure.
The suspects identified as Amubieya Emmanuel and Ogunmola Akintola, both aged 26, were arrested by the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team in Ondo Town on February 25, 2025.
A statement by the Command’s Spokesperson, Funmilayo Odunlami, said findings by the police revealed that the duo had been involved in a series of robbery incidents in the state capital since August 2024.
“Their modus operandi involved luring unsuspecting female victims at night, picking them up in a Toyota Camry around 10 p.m., and driving them to isolated locations where they were dispossessed of their mobile phones and forced to transfer money at gunpoint,” she said.
She disclosed that the police later discovered that the weapon used in their operations was a mere toy gun.
Items recovered from the suspects included a Toyota Camry, a knife, an iron rod, and the toy gun.
The duo, who had long been on the police watchlist, reportedly confessed to the crime.
Command assured residents of its commitment to ensuring their safety, urging members of the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to law enforcement agencies.
