One person has been confirmed dead following a violent clash between rival gangs at a wedding ceremony in the Bayan-Waya area of Kontagora, Niger State, on Saturday.
The incident, which was reported by security analyst Zagazola Makama through his official X handle on Tuesday, involved members of the notorious “Sarasuka” gangs, known for their street-level violence and turf rivalries in northern Nigeria.
According to Makama, the fight broke out suddenly during the celebration.
“One Aliyu Abubakar, aged 25 and a resident of Gangare Sagi Area in Kontagora, was critically injured in the clash and later died from his wounds,” he wrote.
A police source confirmed that a team of officers swiftly responded to a distress call and rushed the victim to the Kontagora General Hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival.
“We are currently working to identify and apprehend the individuals responsible for this act,” the police source confirmed.
