Ondo workers lament delay in payment of 2024 leave allowance

Civil servants in Ondo State have lamented the delay in the payment of their 2024 leave allowance by the state government.

The workers under the aegis of the Joint Public Service Negotiating Council (JPSNC) made the complaint in a letter addressed to the Ondo State Head of Service and dated September 11, 2024.

In the letter jointly signed by Comrades Olapade Ademola (Chairman); Ebiseni Amos Kayode (Vice Chairman); and Akinleye Esther (Treasurer), the workers urged the state government to fulfil its promise and ensure the payment is made without further delay.

They expressed concern over the delay in disbursing the 2024 leave allowance, which was earlier promised to be paid immediately after the state’s approval.

The workers while citing financial pressures on many civil servants, particularly those with school-aged children, noted that the leave allowance would provide much-needed financial relief to them, especially at a time when they are grappling with rising costs of living.

“We wish to remind you about the government’s commitment to pay the annual leave allowance of Ondo State workers for the year 2024.

“The delay is putting many workers under undue financial strain, especially as school resumption approaches,” the workers stated.

They emphasised the importance of the timely release of the allowance to help alleviate workers’ burdens.

Thefrontrank reports that the state government is yet to respond to the complaint of the workers.
