Ondo to reposition Environmental Health Officers’ cadre to forestall disease outbreak
The Ondo State government says arrangements are on to fortify the Environmental Health Officers Cadre in the State Public Service as a way of preventing outbreak of diseases in the state.
The state Head of Service, Mr Bayo Philip dropped the hint while playing host to the state branch of the Health Officers Association on Tuesday in his office in Akure, the state capital.
While charging the officers to brace up in their service delivery to reed the state of diseases and forestall new ones especially cholera as been witnessed in some states in recent times, Philip said the government would put necessary machinery in place to fortify the sector for optimal performance.
According to him, government in consultation with relevant stakeholders and the local government authorities will look at areas where improvement would be needed such as logistics and personnel.
Speaking earlier, the President of the association, Mrs Babajide Olufunke solicited for a more conducive working environment for members to operate by making available the necessary facilities and employment of more hands.
She said the government should also consider putting in place a sustainable succession plan as most of the officers are gradually moving towards retirement.
