The Ondo School Free Shuttle buses on Monday resumed operation, after one week of there withdrawal by Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa-led government without prior notice.
The free shuttle buses were seen in Akure on Monday morning stationed at strategic bus-stops, to convey primary and secondary schools students to their schools.
Thefrontrank reports that the free shuttle buses were introduced during the Dr Olusegun Mimiko’s administration.
The free shuttle buses were off the roads from Monday, January 20, to Friday, January 24, leaving many students stranded at their designated bus stops with scores trekking long distances daily in the sun, especially in the afternoon.
Some students and parents had expressed disappointment over the sudden withdrawal of the school free shuttle buses by state government
They lamented that despite Aiyedatiwa’s assurances during his campaign to sustain the programme, the students now find themselves bearing the brunt of his administration’s inefficiency and inability to deliver on his promises.
Reacting to the resumption, some of students expressed excitement and appreciated the government for listening to their cry for the return of the shuttle buses.
“I’m happy something has been done at last. We thank God that the government listened to our cry. I know my parents will also be happy that the free buses are back,” one of the students, Okiki Adesegun, told Thefrontrank.
Parents who spoke with Thefrontrank appealed to the government to ensure that the free shuttle bus scheme is sustained.
