Ondo guber: APC confirms Thefrontrank report, okays direct primary mode
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has confirmed that its April 20 Ondo governorship primary will be conducted through the direct mode.
Nze Duru, the party’s Deputy National Organising Secretary, announced the mode of the shadow election in Abuja on Wednesday.
Thefrontrank had on March 1, 2024 exclusively reported that the ruling APC had adopted direct primary mode to pick its candidate for the gubernatorial election in Ondo state.
Duru, while confirming the report, said a letter jointly signed by the National Chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje and National Secretary, Sen. Ajibola Basiru, has been sent to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) ahead of the party primary.
“We are using the direct primary mode of election for Ondo State governorship primary election.
“This decision has equally been conveyed in a letter duly signed by the National Chairman and the National Secretary to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) that the party has adopted direct mode of election for Ondo State governorship election,” Duru stated.
Thefrontrank in its report had quoted competent party source that the direct primary mode would be used to elect the party’s flag bearer for the November governorship election.
INEC had fixed party primaries in the state for April 6 – 26, 2024 as well as November 16, 2024, for the governorship election.
No fewer than 16 aspirants, including Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, are seeking the party ticket for the November governorship election.
Other main contenders include Senator Jimoh Ibrahim, Chief Isaac Kekemeke and Chief Olusola Oke, SAN.
