The Ondo State Government has released 57 inmates awaiting trial in the various correctional centres in the state.
They were granted pardon during the visit of the State Commissioner for Justice and Attorney General, Kayode Ajulo, SAN, and the Chief Judge of the State, Justice Ayedun Odusola, to the correctional centres.
During the visit, 15 inmates were released in Akure, 18 in the Ondo male facility, six at the Ondo female facility, and 18 at Okitipupa, unconditionally.
According to the Chief Judge, it was the first visit by any Attorney-General of Ondo State for such a purpose.
The CJ said the act highlights the state government commitment to upholding the rule of law and ensuring fair treatment within the correctional system.
Justice Odusola concluded that the pardon would not only offer a second chance but also reflects the government’s dedication to upholding the principles of justice and fairness.
