Ondo govt delegation inspects UNIMEDTH facilities in Akure, Ondo town

A joint delegation of Ondo State executive and the state House of Assembly has inspected facilities at the University of Medical Sciences Teaching Hospital(UNIMEDTH) complexes in Akure and Ondo town.

The delegation was jointly led by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Health Matters, Prof. Michael Odimayo and the Chairman, House Committee on Health, Dr Christopher Ogunlana.

Babafemi Alexander, Media Assistant to the Special Adviser to the Governor on Health Matters, stated this in a statement on Tuesday in Akure.

The delegation carried out physical examination of the structures, the equipment, working conditions of members of staff and compliance with regulations among others.

Receiving the delegation, Dr Adesina Akintan, Chief Medical Director, UNIMEDTH, Akure annex, expressed deep satisfaction with Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa’s led government for prioritising the health of the people.

“University of Medical Science Teaching Hospital is grateful to our amiable Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa for rising up to rescue the health sector in Ondo state.

“I can recall vividly that the cabinet was constituted just about 12 days ago and work has come this far,” Akintan said.

He, however, expressed confidence in Governor Ayedatiwa’s led administration, saying “it is crystal clear that a new dawn has arrived our dear state and we are encouraged with the pace of progress”.

He appealed to the government to address some of the challenges facing the health sector, including funding, infrastructure, personnel, among others.

In a related development, Pharm. Ogunmodede, the director in charge of pharmacy in thehospital, identified funding as one of the biggest challenges confronting the institution, particularly in the pharmacy department.

“Getting stock from the DMA many a times is strenuous, we will be required to pay for previous stock before attending to new LPOs, of which, most of the time we may not be buoyant enough to offset such debt,” Ogunmodede noted.

Speaking on the state of the facilities in the health institution after being conducted round the hospital, Ogunlana said a lot needs to be done to restore the lost glory of the health sector in the state.

“We know our Governor, he is the listening type, as soon as this exercise is concluded and report submitted, he will swing into action for implementation as appropriate,” he stated.

Also speaking, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Health Matters, Prof. Michael Odimayo, assured the management of the hospital and the people of the state of the commitment and readiness of the governor to address the lingering issues in the health sector.

“The Governor is aware of issues in the health sector. We have only come to re-establish the issues raised before and check around for new ones.

“You should be rest assured that all peculiar issues identified here, will be attended to, in no distance time,” he said.
