CP Wilfred Olatokunbo Afolabi has been appointed as the new Commissioner of Police for Ondo State.
The Police Service Commission (PSC) announced Afolabi’s deployment on Tuesday, December 24, 2024.
He succeeds CP Oladipo Abayomi, who has been promoted to the rank of Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG).
Afolabi, who hails from Yagba East in Kogi State, was appointed alongside five other Commissioners of Police in the latest postings approved by the PSC.
In a statement, the PSC outlined the appointments, stating:
“The Police Service Commission has approved the appointment and posting of six new Commissioners of Police.
“The appointments and postings were sequel to the recent promotions in the Nigeria Police Force released by the Commission last week.
“In the new appointments, CP Shettima Jauro Mohammed was posted to Nasarawa State Command; Rabin Mohammed, now CP, Kaduna State Command and Adepoju Olugbenga Adewale was posted to Rivers State Command.
“Others are; Mohammed Baba Azare, now CP, Akwa Ibom State Command; Wilfred Olatokunbo Afolabi, new CP Ondo State Command, and Joseph Eribo, former CP, Akwa Ibom State now moved to Ekiti State as the new CP Ekiti State Command.”
The Chairman of the Commission, retired DIG Hashimu Argungu, urged the newly appointed Commissioners to view their roles as a call to national service.
“He implored them to be committed to the Government’s drive to stabilise the nation and effectively ensure that our states are free of crime and criminality,” the statement read.
Argungu assured that the Commission would closely monitor their performance, providing support to ensure their success. He further encouraged them to demonstrate dedication and loyalty in serving the country.
