Kaduna: 13 year-old brutalised by soldier, civilian JTF commits suicide
The family of Saul Hashimu are of Ungwan Maigero Community in the Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State, are seeking justice for the death of their 13-year-old son, Wisdom.
The boy’s tragic death was as a result of alleged brutality by a soldier and members of the civilian Joint Task Force (JTF) in the area.
Wisdom, who lived with his parents on Lafiya Sarki Street in the same local government area, was accused of stealing N10,000 from a neighbouring girl, Hope, and her boyfriend, a soldier named Segun Samson, which led to false accusations and torture by the soldier and JTF members.
Subsequently, the teenager tragically took his own life on Thursday, June 6, 2024.
Before his death, Wisdom, who was preparing for his Junior Secondary School examination, was severely beaten by the soldier and civilian JTF members on June 1, 2024.
Rather than involving the police, the soldier reportedly took matters into his own hands and subjected Wisdom to further abuse at the civilian JTF office.
The beatings left Wisdom incapacitated, and despite receiving medical attention, he was found dead by suicide a few days later.
Wisdom’s parents, devastated by their loss are seeking justice, demanding accountability for those responsible for their son’s death.
They are urging authorities to take appropriate action against the perpetrators to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
The Kaduna State Police Command has acknowledged the incident and assured the public that a thorough investigation will be conducted to bring those responsible for Wisdom’s untimely death to justice.
