The impeached Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, has insisted that he remains the rightful speaker of the assembly based on constitutional provisions.
Obasa made this declaration on Saturday in Ikeja GRA during a welcome event organized in his honour by supporters from Agege, Alimosho and Kosofe Local Government areas.
Thefrontrank reports that Obasa was removed from office by his colleagues at the plenary on January 13 over allegations of financial mismanagement and gross misconduct.
Speaking on his removal, Obasa argued that the due process was not followed by his colleagues.
He said: “My status in the house? I believe strongly I am still the speaker until the right thing has been done. If you want to remove me, remove me the proper way and I will not contest it.
“I’m a Muslim and I believe in fate. But let’s do it the way it should be done.”
When asked if a legal battle is in the offing, Obasa responded: “You will know. It’s a matter of time. Thank you and God bless you.”
Obasa stated that he would accept his impeachment if it is carried out in accordance with constitutional guidelines.
