Mudashiru Obasa on Thursday announced that he has resumed as the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly.
Thefrontrank reports that Obasa made the announcement after returning to the parliament for the first time since he was impeached on January 13.
“I’ve resumed and I remain the Speaker of the Assembly,” he said after storming the parliament with armed escort.
Obasa was impeached on January 13 by an overwhelming majority of the lawmakers and replaced with Mojisola Meranda.
Meranda has been unable to assume full control of the parliament for several weeks.
No fresh leadership election was held to reinstate Obasa as Speaker.
He has filed a lawsuit against his removal, but the case has not been decided on the controversy.
Meranda could not be reached for comment as of Thursday afternoon.
