Former South African President Jacob Zuma involved in car crash

Former South African President Jacob Zuma has been involved in a car accident but was unhurt, Thefrontfrank reports.

The incident which occurred on Thursday evening, saw Zuma’s “official armoured state vehicle” hit in his home province of KwaZulu-Natal.

“No-one was injured, including members of the Presidential Protection Services.

“The former president was evacuated and taken to his residence,” a police statement said.

“A 51-year-old man has since been arrested for ‘drunken driving as well as… reckless and negligent driving,” the statement added.

But the head of Zuma’s uMkhonto we Sizwe (MK) party told public broadcaster SABC he believed South Africa’s fourth president had been deliberately targeted by the suspect.

“Unfortunately, we have been waiting for it to happen. The president was warned that before the day of the elections, he would be lying in the hospital,” he said.

Zuma, 81, was released from prison in 2022 following the completion of his jail sentence.

Zuma was jailed for 15 months in July 2021 for his refusal to appear before the Judicial Commission of Inquiry into allegations of State Capture while he was president from 2009 to 2018.
