Fire razes shops, destroys property worth millions of naira in Okitipupa market
A fire incident, which occured in the early hours of Thursday, has razed shops and destroyed property worth millions of naira at the Okitipupa main market in Okitipupa Local Government Area of Ondo State.
Thefrontrank reports that several shops, containers, and kiosks were affected by the fire which was reported to have started around at about 2;00am
A block of 16 lock up shops housing the frozen foods sellers, especially frozen fish, turkey and chicken were burnt beyond redemption.
Big freezers, compartment of solar power installations were also consumed by the inferno.
None of the affected shop owners could give account of what caused the fire outbreak.
An eyewitness said it was the quck intervention of some Hausas, living around the market, that assisted in putting out the inferno and prevented its escalation.
Thefrontrank reports that as at the time of filing this report, the Caretaker Chairman of Okitipupa Local Government, Chief Igbekele Akinrinwa, was yet to visit the market to assess the level of destruction.
