Residents of Ondo State are now living in fear as gunmen have reportedly killed a health worker, Akinola Oyabiyi, at Eleyowo near Akure Airport in the Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State.
Thefrontrank gathered that the father of four, was driving home at about 8.00 p.m on Tuesday when the tragic incident occurred.
A family source who spoke on condition of anonymity, explained that the 46-year-old health worker was shot dead by the gunmen while returning home.
“The incident happened on Tuesday at about 8.00pm when he was going home. The people attacked him. I think they were trying to kidnap him.
“He was shot in the belly and died shortly after. We learnt the bandits came out from the bush and shot him in his car,” the family member disclosed on Friday.
Confirming the incident, the spokesperson for the state Police command, Mrs Funmilayo Odunlami, said the command was “on top of the matter.”
This followed recent attacks in the same area, including the kidnapping of a farm manager and two industrial training students, while five farm workers were also killed by gunmen in the area.
The abductors of the farm manager were said to be demanding for a N15 million ransom.
Speaking on the incessant killings in the state, a resident of Akure, Adekunubi Thomas said: “We are all living in fear. It is now obvious to everybody that the Aiyedatiwa-led government is helpless.”
