Excitement as Edema unveils Akure-born medical practitioner, Adeyemi NNPP deputy governorship candidate

Gbenga Edema, the governorship candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) in Ondo State, unveiled an Akure-born medical practitioner, Dr Rotimi Adeyemi as his running mate for the November 16 election.

Edema is of believe that the choice of Adeyemi, prominent son of Akure, as his deputy signals the determination of the NNPP to occupy the Governor’s Office, Alagbaka in February 2025.

Thefrontrank reports that the choice of Adeyemi as the deputy governorship candidate of NNPP in the state, excited major stakeholders particularly among the indigenes of Akure South, Ifedore and Akure North Local Government Areas.

The stakeholders described Adeyemi as “a man of impeccable integrity and credibility who clearly understands the state’s contemporary challenge”, and with a pledge to work for his victory at the governorship poll in November.

Thefrontrank reports that Adeyemi is also legal practitioner and philanthropist.

Dr. (Barr.) Rotimi Emmanuel Adeyemi was born on Thursday 25th Mach 1965 to the family of the Adeyemi. The father was Late Mr. Joseph Adebayo Adeyemi A.C.I, a native of Akure of Eyinke descendant and Chief (Mrs) Mercy Abeo Adeyemi (nee Olatinwo) a native of Ibadan, of Otun-Lajumoke family in Oja-Oba descendant, Oyo State.

Dr. (Barr.) Rotimi Emmanuel Adeyemi a Fellow and Registrar of West African Postgraduate College of Environmental Health, Fellow of International Federation of Environmental Health and Fellow Royal Society for Health Promotion, London.

He is a retired Director of Environment Services of Ondo State Local Government Service Commission, Akure. He is an adjunct Lecturer 1, Department of Environmental Health Science and Occupational Health, School of Public Health, University of Medical Sciences, Ondo, Ondo State.

He is married to Mrs Christiana Oluwafunmilayo Adeyemi (nee Ekunniyi) and the marriage is blessed with promising children

• Introduction of environmental health modelling into the control and curtailment of incidences of malaria attack in pregnant mothers and children.
• Introduced Community/Local Government Health Committees for sustained community involvement in Malaria control programme and other health programmes in Owena-Owode and Bolorunduro communities.

• Statistically analysed all malaria cases in children 0-11years in the Local Government from 1990 to 1996.
• Raised awareness level on malaria prevention and control from 33% to 64.5%.
• Mobilised mothers to accepting and use of pyrethrum-impregnated nets in malaria control programme.
Higher Environmental Health Officer/Onchocerciasis Control Officer

• Liaise with UNICEF-B Field Officer/State Ministry of Health, Onchocerciasis Control Manager for procurement of drugs, funds, and retirement of drugs/funds and prepare monthly report of activities.
• Implement training courses for NGO’s, Health Workers, and Voluntary health workers on guidelines on Mectizan distributions.
• Achieved the marked record of distributing over 90,000 tablets of Mectizan (Ivermectin) for Onchocerciasis control programme in six months and supervised 60 Community Based Distributors.
• Conducted the survey and computation of all health facilities in the Local Government Area both Public and Private.
Environmental Health Officer (Guinea-worm Control)
January 1989 to August 1989. Primary Health Care Dept. Idanre L.G., Owena
• Successfully identified (assisted by U.S. Peace Corps – Jimmy Carter Foundation) all Communities with cases of Guinea worm diseases in Idanre L.G. and ensured effective control and eradication of water borne infection through weekly water sample collection for laboratory analysis.
