Court remands minor in Ekiti juvenile home for stabbing two siblings

An Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrate Court has remanded a 12-year-old boy in a juvenile home for allegedly stabbing two brothers in the hand and shoulder in the state.

Chief Magistrate Abayomi Adeosun, on Wednesday, ruled that “the defendant is a juvenile and shall be tried at the juvenile court. He is hereby ordered remanded at the juvenile home” as he adjourned the case till August 16 for mention.

The police prosecutor, Inspector Akinwale Oriyomi, had told the court that the defendant (minor) committed the offence on August 10 at about 8 a.m. at the Omi Olori area in Ado Ekiti.

Oriyomi alleged that “the defendant assaulted two siblings – Toheeb Adeitan and Tajudeen Adeitan- by beating them and stabbing them on the hand and shoulder.”

The prosecutor added, “The defendant wilfully and maliciously damaged the Vivo handset valued at N19,000 belonging to one Basiri Adeitan. The defendant conducted himself in a manner likely to cause the breach of peace.

“The offences committed contravene Sections 186, 421 and 181(d) Laws of Ekiti State, 2021,” Oriyomi stated as he prayed to the court for a short adjournment to enable him to study the case file and present his witnesses.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge against him as his counsel, Mr Gboyega Abiola, urged the court to grant his client bail, with a promise that he would not jump bail.
