Angry okada riders kill police officer in Lagos

An Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) who led a team to a scene of an accident in Agege area of Lagos, has been killed.

He was said to have been killed by commercial motorcyclists popularly known as okada riders, who attacked him and his team.

This reportedly happened after the okada riders resisted the evacuation of a truck that knocked down one of their colleagues.

They had insisted that they would set the truth on fire.

Speaking to Daily Trust, Spokesman of the Lagos State Police Command, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the incident.

He said the police team got a distress call regarding the knocking down of the okada rider at about 1.40am.

He said: “On getting to the scene, the team met a large number of motorcycle riders who had gathered around the place.

“However, the patrol team in the process of evacuating the truck came under attack by the riders who insisted on torching the truck as a result of which one ASP, 46 years old was injured on the head and he died on the spot while the truck driver escaped.”

“Five suspects have since been arrested and manhunt for other is on.”
