Akintelure died after 14-day sickness – Family

The family of Otunba Paul Akintelure, a governorship aspirant on the platform of the ruling All Progressives Congress in Ondo, said he died after 14 days sickness.

Akintelure died on Tuesday at the age of 61.

Oladapo Akintelure, the younger brother of the deceased, said in a telephone interview that the Igbotako-born politician died in a Lagos hospital.

Said he: “For the past 12 or 14 days, he (Akintelure) had been complaining of several sudden illnesses ranging from headaches to back and chest pains.

“He was admitted at a time and had to take a break off campaign to attend to his health. At a time, we were worried and advised him to rest and we moved him to Lagos.

“I would not want to say much for now because it is still a shocking moment for us, but it is unfortunate that we lost him at this critical time.”

Born in Igbotako, Okitipupa Local Government Area of Ondo State, Paul Akintelure studied Medicine and Surgery at the University of Ibadan.

After working for some years in government hospitals, he went into private medical practice in Lagos.

Akintelure was the running mate of Rotimi Akeredolu in the 2012 governorship election in Ondo State.

In recognition of his outstanding contributions and philanthropic gestures to the Igbotako community, Akintelure was honoured with the title of Otunba of Osooro-Land by the paramount ruler of the kingdom, Oba Gbadebo Bajowa in November 2005.

In 2017, he was also honoured with the title of Otunba of Ikale-Land, by the Abodi of Ikale-Land, Oba George Faduyile.

Akintelure was a highly committed family man having much integrity, passion and discipline.

He was blessed with four children – two girls and two boys.
