AFCON: Zaidu deserves commendation not criticism – Peseiro

Jose Peseiro, Super Eagles head coach, has come to the defence of Zaidu Sanusi, claiming he did well in the Eagles’ victory against the Palancas Negras of Angola.

The Porto defender has not measured up to standard for Nigeria at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

“Zaidu has done well for us. It’s not easy to play in this system (3-4-3). You have to run and defend a lot.

“I think he performed well in this game. He made a couple of mistakes but overall, his performance was good,” Peseiro told journalists after the match.

Zaidu has played all of Nigeria’s five games at the AFCON 2023 finals.

The defender put up a below average performance in the Super Eagles 1-0 win against the Palancas Negras in their quarter-final clash at the Felix Houphouet Boigny Stadium, Abidjan, on Friday night.

Ademola Lookman scored the winning goal for the Super Eagles four minutes before the break.
