Abduction: Police rescue three Indian nationals in Ogun

The Police Command in Ogun State says it has rescued three Indians, and a Nigerian identified as Ola.

The four were abducted last Sunday night, near Delabo Junction by unidentified armed men riding in an unmarked Toyota Venza who accosted the victims who were riding in a grey Toyota Rav 4 jeep with registration number AGL 16 JE.

It was learnt that the armed men fired four shots at the driver’s side tyre and another at the rear side of the driver, forcing the vehicle to stop. Thereafter, they abducted the occupants and fled towards Ijebu-Ode.

Commissioner of Police for Ogun State (CP), Abiodun Alamutu, announced this on Wednesday, at a briefing at the Police Command Headquarters, Eleweran, said through a covert operation, the gunmen were located in a bush at Ogere and in the ensuing gun battle, the squad eliminated two of the gunmen while others escaped with injuries.

Alamutu said items recovered were 109 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, five AK-47 rifles, eight AK-47 magazines and two cell phones.

“The anti-kidnapping squad’s superior firepower led to the elimination of two suspects, while the remaining criminals escaped with injuries, leaving behind their weapons. The victims, later identified as one Nigerian and three Indian nationals, were safely rescued unharmed and reunited with their families.’’

“Recovered items include 109 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, five must AK 47 rifles, eight AK-47 magazines and two cell phones.

“The Ogun State Police Command remains dedicated to safeguarding lives and property, a primary duty for us. A rapid response team has been deployed to enhance security along the Sagamu-Benin route. We encourage the public to report individuals displaying gunshot wounds under reasonable suspicions,” he said.
