Drama as woman storms church with five children to stop pastor husband from marrying another cleric
There was a drama at a church in Ngurubani, Mwea, Kirinyaga county, in Kenya when a woman stormed the church to stop her husband, 58, from marrying another woman, who happened to be the pastor of the church.
Rose Wawira Chomba stormed the church, alongside her five children, saying she is the wife of Chomba Njoka Mutambu, adding that the union had been solemnised in June 2013.
“We went to church to solemnise our marriage according to the canonical rules and it was granted by a Kerugoya parish, so I wonder how he is wedding another wife without our knowledge,” Wawira said.
Rev Chomba was wedding pastor Regina, both belonging to Vision Beyond Living Gospel Church in Ngurubani.
Attempts by Wawira and her children to stop the event were met with resistance from security.
“We are wondering why they are coming at this time despite all the time they had to make objections during preparations,” Peter Macharia Kamau said.
Wawira said Chomba had abandoned the family and had been living with Regina.
She accused her estranged husband of wanting to abandon the family and then sell their land.
It took the intervention of Wanguru police officers led by Mwea East OCPD Patrick Nyaanga to keep peace in the compound.
“We were called by a member of the public after an alarm was raised that there was a fight in the church,” the police boss said.
One of Chomba’s children, Lucy Wakuthii, accused him of abandoning the family.
“My mother had been struggling to take us to school. Now we suspect he wants to marry another woman so that they can sell our land and leave us with nothing,” she said.
Shocked residents who witnessed the drama said the fracas was a shame.
