The government of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has denied knowledge of the conditions announced by the federal government for obtaining the country’s visas.
According to TheCable, the UAE denied knowledge of the $10,000 bank account balance, which the government said was an eligibility criterion for visa applicants on Monday. Visa applicants will also not be required to collect a document verification number (DVN) at a cost of N640,000.
The UAE’s General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners’ Affairs (GDRFAD) told the newspaper that it was not aware of such conditions.
“You will need a personal photo and a copy of your passport which must not have less than six months validity,” the GDRFAD explained. “You will also need a travel ticket and valid medical insurance within the UAE.”
On the $10,000 bank account balance, the directorate said, “We are not aware of such requirements. Make your visa applications through the GDRFAD.”
Upon finding out about these stringent conditions on Monday, many Nigerians expressed disappointment in the government.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has not made any statement on this development as of press time.
