The Nigerian Immigration Service has rolled out its Contactless Biometric Passport Application System in four more countries.
The countries include the USA, Mexico, Jamaica, and Brazil.
This was disclosed in a statement signed by the NIS Public Relations Officer, ACI AS Akinlabi, shared on the service’s X handle on Sunday.
Akinlabi said the move was part of the service’s plan to make passport renewal easier for Nigerians abroad.
The new system will allow Nigerians in these countries to renew their passports without visiting passport offices for biometric data.
Instead, they can use the NIS Mobile App on Google Play Store.
He added that the Apple Store version will be available soon.
According to the statement, the roll-out dates are USA – April 11, 2025; Mexico – April 14, 2025; Jamaica – April 14, 2025; Brazil – April 14, 2025.
The statement reads, “The Application System, which is currently available on Google Play Store (NIS Mobile), is designed to allow Nigerians to renew their passports without visiting any Passport Centre for Biometrics enrollment.
“The Apple Store version will be onboarded shortly and an enhanced version of the NIS Mobile App for both Android and iOS users will be deployed to further improve users’ experience and accessibility.”
The immigration service also announced that the app was already available in Canada, the USA, Mexico, Jamaica, Brazil, Europe, and Asia.
However, it is not yet available in Australia and Nigeria.
“A future date will be announced for both countries in due course,” the NIS added.
The agency assured Nigerians of its commitment to better service, saying, “The Service remains committed to innovative and efficient service delivery to Nigerians anywhere in the world,” Akinlabi said.
