A yet-to-be-identified woman who plunged into Lagos lagoon, off the Third Mainland Bridge, has been recovered dead.
According to an eyewitness, the incident occurred on Thursday at about 4.00p.m. at the University of Lagos (UNILAG) waterfront spot on the bridge.
It was gathered that marine police officers stationed in the area swiftly responded to the emergency and subsequently recovered the body despite rescue efforts.
The immediate and remote causes of the incident could not be ascertained, but eyewitnesses attributed it to suicide.
Lagos State Police Command Public Relations Officer Benjamin Hundeyin confirmed the incident on Friday.
He stated that, despite the marine police officers’ efforts to save her, medical personnel from the University of Lagos confirmed her death upon arrival.
Hundeyin confirmed that the deceased’s body has since been evacuated to the Infectious Disease Hospital (IDH) Mortuary in Yaba for preservation.
