The rivalry between the faction groups of the Jama’atu Ahlis Sunna Lidda’awati Wal-Jihad (JAS), commonly known as Boko Haram has intensified in Borno State
Suspected Boko Haram terrorists launched an attack on Malari Police Station in Borno State early Wednesday but were repelled by a combined team of police officers and soldiers.
Local sources said the insurgents stormed the station around 1:00 am, targeting an Armoured Personnel Carrier and attempting to infiltrate the facility. However, security forces engaged them in a fierce gun battle, forcing them to retreat.
Confirming the incident, Borno State Police Command spokesperson, ASP Nahum Daso, stated that no casualties were recorded among security personnel, though the attackers likely suffered losses.
“So far, no bodies have been recovered, but we are certain there were casualties on the insurgents’ side,” he said.
Daso assured residents that security had been reinforced in Malari, a town previously vulnerable to insurgent attacks.
Despite the successful defense, some residents expressed fear that the militants might regroup and launch another assault.
The attack comes weeks after Boko Haram raided Nganzai Police Division, killing two officers. Borno State Commissioner of Police, Yusufu Lawal, praised the security forces for their resilience and reaffirmed the command’s commitment to maintaining law and order.
