The shortfalls in the salary of the federal civil servants that became prominent during the January, 2025 payment have continued in February, Thefrontrank reports.
It was gathered that some of the federal government workers who have received their February salaries and payslips confirmed the continuation of the underpayments that were in January.
Reacting to the development, some of the workers who pleaded anonymity, accused the government of making life difficult for them amidst worsening economic crisis in the country.
They lamented that underpayment or short payment started in December and became pronounced in January.
The workers told Thefrontrank that the issue has regrettably remained unresolved in February “as some of us that have received our salaries and payslips have also noticed the shortchange in our salaries. What sort of punishment is this?
“It’s disheartening that the federal government has stopped the payment of both the minimum wage and wage award since January, 2025, and yet, it has increased tax deduction by 100 per cent. This government is actually out to punish us.”
They appealed to the government to resolve the issue immediately.
Reacting, the Treasurer of the Joint Public Service Negotiating Council(JPSNC), Roselyn Anarah, said: “The National Joint Public Service Negotiating Council has written in regard of the January salaries and also got a feedback from government side that something is being done about it.
“The leadership of the Union will act as it gets complaints from workers.”
Earlier, the National Chairman of the JPSNC, Mr Benjamin Anthony, had assured workers that the federal government was working to correct the discrepancies in January salaries, which were significantly reduced than previous months.
According to him, the shortfalls affecting federal civil servants were attributed to a “systematic error” in the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System(IPPIS).
