Prof. Akeem Lasisi, the Vice-Chancellor of Federal University of Health Sciences, Ila-Orangun, Osun State, has urged the new students of the university to be worthy in character and learning or be ready to lose their admission.
Lasisi said this on Tuesday in Ila-Orangun at two-day orientation programme organised for the newly-admitted students for 2024/2025 academic session.
Lasisi, represented by his Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Monsuru Adeleke, said that good character was the foundation for academic excellence.
According to him, no matter how brilliant a student might be, if or she lacks good character, such student cannot be awarded a certificate.
Lasisi urged the new students to embrace good character and shun all forms of social-vices.
He said that any students who lacked the required learning character might lose his or her admission.
Lasisi, who urged the students to count themselves luck to had been admitted, said more than 4,000 candidates applied to the university but only 1,000 were admitted.
“Good character is very important and that is why before a certificate can be awarded to any student, he or she must be find worthy both in character and learning.
“Be diligent and thrive to be the best in your academic”, he said.
The vice-chancellor said that the orientation programme was put in place to open the eyes and minds of the students to different aspects of the university’s life.
Lasisi said that the orientation programme would assist the students to know what is expected of them as a students of the university.
“If after this orientation you go against the rules and regulations of the school, you will be penalise,” he said.
In his presentation, Mr Laaro Sulaimon, an official from Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), warned the students against cybercrime and “yahoo-yahoo”.
Sulaimon, who urged them to be conscious of the risks involved in cyber crime, said they should not engage themselves in it.
He said they should use the knowledge from the internet to grow themselves rather than using it to destroy themselves.
The students were also sensitised on the danger of corruption, the university’s code of conduct, documentation and registration as well as benefits of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund(NELFUND).
They were also warned against indecent dressing, bullying, examination malpractices, cultism, among others.
