Nigerian music star Temilade Openiyi, popularly known as Tems, has clinched the Best African Music Performance award at the 67th Annual Grammy Awards.
Her hit track “Love Me JeJe” earned her the prestigious accolade.
The award ceremony took place on Sunday, February 2, 2025, at Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, USA.
Tems faced stiff competition in the Best African Music Performance category, edging out notable artists such as Yemi Alade with “Tomorrow,” Asake and Wizkid’s collaboration “MMS,” Chris Brown featuring Davido and Lojay on “Sensational,” and Burna Boy’s “Higher.”
“Love Me JeJe,” released on April 26, 2024, is a modern rendition of Seyi Sodimu’s 1997 classic. Tems’ version blends Afrobeats and R&B, showcasing her unique musical style.
According to The Guardian, this win marks Tems’ second Grammy award, following her previous recognition in 2023.
