Nigerian Army’s 6 Brigade and Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), have again made significant progress in securing Taraba State by apprehending a suspected member of the Boko Haram terrorist group.
In a statement made available to journalists on Tuesday by the Brigade acting spokesperson, Captain Oni Olubodunde, said the suspect was arrested on January 26, following credible intelligence.
The troops, according to the statement, successfully tracked down and arrested Gambo Grema, also known as Gamboi, in Mai-Hula town, Bali Local Government council of the state.
“During initial questioning, Grema admitted to being part of a Boko Haram syndicate that had infiltrated Taraba State.
“Their objective was to engage in kidnapping for ransom to fund terrorist activities and establish a new operational cell in the region.
“Grema also revealed that members of the Islamic State in West Africa Province (ISWAP) were working alongside them to execute other criminal operations,” the statement read.
The Commander of the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, commended the success of the operation, emphasizing the brigade’s ongoing commitment to countering terrorism and ensuring the safety of citizens.
He assured the public of the army’s resolve to maintain peace and stability in the region and urged continued cooperation among security forces in the fight against terrorism.
