The Ondo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has described the Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa’s appointment of 344 Special Assistants as wasteful and ill-timed.
A statement by its Director of Media and Publicity, Leye Igbabo, the party branded the appointments as the “last kicks of a dying horse,” accusing Aiyedatiwa of using public funds to curry favour ahead of the November 16 governorship election.
“It’s shocking that while other states are cutting the cost of governance, Aiyedatiwa is splurging on unnecessary appointments, dragging Ondo State deeper into financial crisis,” the party said.
The opposition party did not hold back, criticising the governor for allegedly failing to deliver any meaningful projects despite receiving over ₦100 billion in federal allocations and other funds in the past eight months.
It pointed to Akure’s poor sanitation and abandoned road projects as evidence of the administration’s failure.
“Akure has become an eyesore, with heaps of waste posing a health risk, and the roads are in such a deplorable state.
“Yet, Aiyedatiwa is busy handing out positions to cronies instead of fixing real problems,” the PDP added.
The PDP also accused Aiyedatiwa of trying to manipulate the people by handing out jobs to loyalists as a last-minute ploy to secure votes.
“He’s panicking because he knows defeat is inevitable, and these appointments are just a desperate attempt to salvage his political career,” the PDP stated.
The party urged Ondo voters to reject Aiyedatiwa at the poll, warning that the people have learned from past mistakes and will not be swayed by empty promises and political gimmicks.
