86-year-old woman set ablaze by her daughter dies in Ondo

An 86-year-old woman set blaze by her 45-year-old daughter in Ondo City, Ondo West Local Government Area of Ondo State has died.

The daughter identified as Abiodun(aka Iya Sunday) poured fuel on her mother and set her ablze at their residence opposite Anglican Cathedral Church, Surulere Area of Ondo City.

Abiodun accused her mother of been behind her financial ordeal and problems spiritually.

The victim, who was taken to hospital, has died of the burnt she sustained when set ablaze by her daughter.

Abiodun, who has been arrested by the Police, said: “I went to my mother’s house around 4.00a.m. and sat outside. When it was 5.00 a.m., I called out my mother from the house. Immediately after she came out, not knowing what was happening, I poured petrol on her and set her on fire.

“What cause this is that I went to one pastor for prayer and he told me that my mother was behind what was happening to me. I did not believe it at first. My mother also took me somewhere to see one woman. After my mother left, the woman also said the same thing.

“I burnt my mother because of what I heard from the pastor and the woman, that I can only be free from bondage when my mother is dead.”

Speaking on incident, Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Funmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya, confirmed that the 86-year-old woman had died in the hospital.
