
No fewer than 320 athletes from Ondo State have left for Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital, for the maiden edition of the Niger Delta Sports Festival (NDSF).
Tolulope Adeyemi, the Chairperson of the Ondo State Liaison Committee for the festival, stated this while addressing newsmen on Sunday in Akure.
The 320 athletes will be participating in 17 events at the festival.
Adeyemi, who is the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Youth and Sports, said that the state would represent itself well at the maiden event.
She mentioned that over 1,000 athletes participated in the pre-trials, and the best were selected for the main competition.
“Ondo is ready. We are set, and I am sure our athletes will emerge victorious in this maiden edition of the competition.
“We want to appreciate our amiable Governor for all the support we have received so far.
“We assure the state that we will not disappoint, and we will bring back laurels and make our state proud,” she said.
Team Ondo will compete with eight other Niger Delta states in 17 games, which will commence from April 1 to April 9.
The athletes will compete in Football, Wrestling, Boxing, Table Tennis, Athletics, Scrabble, Handball, Canoeing, Basketball, Chess, Weightlifting, Para-Athletics, Traditional Wrestling, Volleyball, Swimming, Tennis, and Powerlifting.
