The 20 medical students and a house officer abducted in Benue State last week have been rescued, according to the State Police Command.

The command in a terse sms by its spokesperson, Catherine Anene, on Friday night confirmed the rescue of the kidnapped students and the house officer.

An SMS at about 11:15pm on Friday by the command’s spokesperson simply said: “Kidnap victims released. Details will be released tomorrow (today) morning please.”

Their rescue was made possible by the joint efforts of the military, police and the Department of State Security (DSS).

The operation was coordinated by the office of the National Security Adviser (NSA).

The news must have come as a relief to the families, mates and friends of the freed students.

They were abducted on Thursday, August 15 on the Otukpo-Enugu Highway in Benue State on their way to the annual convention of the Federation of Catholic Medical and Dental Students in Enugu.
